The Centre for Research on Management, Economy and Society (CRoMES) brings together the Business School’s research. CRoMES’ mission is ‘critical research with impact’. It has a distinctive approach to identifying areas of mutual benefit and pursuing collaboration with external organisations including businesses and employers in the region.
CRoMES has achieved a sustained and significant contribution to world-wide understanding of business and management, with many of the centre’s researchers acknowledged as international subject experts. The centre undertakes substantial amounts of funded research for bodies such as the EU. It supports three internationally respected doctoral training programmes:
- Professional doctorate in Management (DMan)
- Professional doctorate in Business Administration (DBA)
- Professional doctorate in project management (DPM)
Building on over 50 years of research excellence in business, management and the social sciences, CRoMES has established the foundational concepts that today enable the investigation of contemporary topics and problems, including:
- the digitisation of labour.
- big data modelling of health care datasets.
- the evolutionary learning of successful enterprises.
- harnessing social enterprise and value in local settings.
Research is conducted through four key groups:
- Enterprise and value, led by Professor Sue Halliday and Professor Ross Brennan
- Global work and employment, led by Professor Jane Hardy and Graham Hollinshead
- Managing complex change, led by Professor Christopher Mowles
- Organisations, markets and policy, led by Professor Geoffrey Hodgson and Professor Hulya Dagdeviren
