UEW Home Econs Department gets support

The Department of Home Economics of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has received assorted equipment from the Valco Trust Fund in support of the operations of the department.

It was in response to a request made by two lecturers of the department as a result of need to retool the various vocational and technical sections of the department.
The package, which included a fridge, sewing machines, dry and steam pressing irons, gas cookers with oven, blenders, and gas cylinders with regulators, was presented at the Valco Trust Fund office in Accra on Monday.

Mr. A.F. Hammond, Director of the Fund, said the donation was part of the responsibilities of the Fund to offer support to individuals and organisations in need.

He noted that they have assisted many groups over the years and that has helped in developing many small and medium-scale organisations into larger ones. He was optimistic that the items donated to the Department of Home Economics would go a long way to assist the department in fulfilling its mandate of imparting skills and knowledge to students.

Ms. Kutum Comfort Madah, acting Head of the Department, receiving the package expressed gratitude for the gesture.

She noted that the donation would greatly assist in enhancing the training and equipping students with the right skills and knowledge.

She, however, called for more collaboration and assistance from other benevolent organisations to enable the department to achieve its objectives.

The two lecturers, who made the request to the Fund on behalf of the Home Economics Students Association, are Mrs. Joana Antwi-Donkor and Ms. Priscilla Yaba Ackah.
